Sleep in extreme conditions

One of the research projects of the Foundation is “Sleep in Extreem Conditions”. These studies focus on how sleep management can benefit athletes who participate in high-risk sports, under conditions that force them to limit their hours of sleep. Additionally, their rest is influenced by the intensity of the sport that does not allow them to rest properly.

  • SLEEP MANAGEMENT OF COMPETING AND ELITE TENNIS PLAYERS: A PIONEER PROJECT BY THE BARCINO TENNIS CLUB AND THE ESTIVILL SLEEP FOUNDATION

    This study analyses the sleep, circadian rhythms, emotional and neurocognitive states and physical performance of two tennis teams fromTennis Club Barcino. It is a pioneering study in our country. It will be the first scientific study in this field and give added value to the Barcino Tennis Club.

    Sleep in the mountains. This is a new challenge of the Estivill Sleep Foundation research conducted for the first time on sleep in high elevations. We study the sleep of Alpinist Ferran Latorre during his attempt to summit Everest next spring, his last 8.000m peak that remains in order to complete his personal project CAT14x8000 (to be the first Catalan to have crowned the 14 highest peaks in the world without artificial oxygen).

    The FES is iniciating a new research project on sleep in extreme solo ocean sailing. Solo sailing is demanding since the sailor must keep watch 24 hours a day. The foundation prepares a sleep plan based on a polyphasic sleep.
