SLEEP OF MARATHON RUNNERS IN BARCELONA
COLLABORATION BETWEEN ESTIVILL SLEEP FOUNDATION AND CATALUNYA RADIO
Various Catalunya Radio programs have taken the initiative to collaborate with the Barcelona Marathon, to be held next March 15.
They have chosen a 5 participants, amateur athletes, who want to run the Marathon. These five people are undergoing a training program coordinated by EMMA ROCA, world champion in Ultradistance.
Each athlete has a coach. They also have a medical team of Dr. Bellver delCAR and cardiologist Dr. Sanchez.
The Foundation, in its research program, will participate in a sleep study of these athletes to rest well and to optimize their performance.
They will be studied for 3 weeks. One study at baseline, another before the race and the last one after the race. The Kronowise sensors, developed by Dr. Juan Antonio Madrid, University of Murcia will be used.
The objective of the study during the first week is to know the quality of sleep at baseline. With this data we will give the necessary recommendation to have adequate sleep the week before the race. The week after the race will help us to know how the recovery process from sleep, after intense exercise.
